THIS SOUNDS ILLEGAL-VIOLATION OF THE MN OPEN MEETING LAW: The council ended its meeting by deciding to schedule a retreat in February where the council can “air things and hassle over issues,” according to Battaglia, who brought up the idea. The retreat, which would not be open to the public, would be led by a facilitator and would include city administrator Lee Klein and treasurer Jill Baumann. Glaser will set up the time and place. |

Try a call to City Hall .. ask the City Administrator Mr. Klein. I am certain he can fill in the blanks on that law. 834-5631 |

Checked one of the books I had laying around. Minnesota State Statute 13D.01 "Meetings must be open to the public; exceptions. Subdivision 1. In executive branch, local government. ALL MEETINGS, including executive sessions, must be open to the public - blah, blah, blah. Sud. 2. Exceptions. This chapter does not apply (1) to meetings of the commissioner of corrections; (2) to a state agency, board, or commission when it is exercising quasi-judicial functions involving disciplinary proceedings; or (3) as otherwise expressly provided by statute. *** Subd. 3. Subject of and grounds for closed meeting. BEFORE closing a meeting, a public body shall state ON THE RECORD the specific grounds permitting the meeting to be closed AND describe the subjects to be discussed. EVEN A CLOSED MEETING NEEDS TO BE POSTED. Hope this helps!

It sure does. Now someone should call City Hall and REMIND THEM...Sure would be a bad thing if the Duluth News Tribune got a hold of that. Hmmm, could lead to some problems! |

Surprise Surprise! Our wonderful City Fathers not knowing what they can and can't do! No one reading this is surprised, are they? I would have to agree with one of the other postings, it is time to start trying to get people to run for the political offices in the City of Two Harbors. Especially, as someone stated before, for the following positions. 1. MAYOR - currently held by Robin Glaser. 2. Councilperson - currently held by Mary Rosati. 3. Councilperson - currently held by Dave Battaglia. I hope and know there are many many people in the City of Two Harbors who happen to agree, lets help the City of Two Harbors move forward! } |

To the future I for the life of me cant see picking on David as if it wasnt for him watching our coffers the past years we would really be in the whole.Or on Mary Rosatti as she has done all of what has been asked of her.Committe work etc.As for the mayor I have to agree. But than you dont say anything about the others Chris which has his own agenda doesnt make commitee meetings and misses more meetings than he attends.Phillips which constantly causes contraversies and still thinks he lives in the big cities Jones which shouldnt even be there as a city employee Since elected hasnt done a dam thing constructly and his city work as a janitor is slacking off.And good old Daren which is showing his true colors esp.on the police Comm.Issue Than there is John which all of you can come up with your own opinion of.Boy what a crew. |

David, (since you know him so well) has sucked off the public feed bowl for most of his life. It's time for a change. The city is going no where on this issue. |

Baker - need a favor. Would you please check and see how much the City has spent on attorney fees, per year, since Steve Overum was hired? Then, if you would, please check and see how much was spent when Larry Nord was City Attorney. If you come up with the numbers, I think you will be surprised how well the coffers aren't being watched. P.S. For giggles, how about seeing how much we pay Mr. Sample for doing what Roger Simonson was doing. Thanks much. I await your reply. |

Darrin Young and his true colors on the Police Commission! Before we judge, may I suggest we find out the real issues with the Police Commission from people who may know the truth! Brad Jones and his being in political office, more power to him. I do wish the other councilors were a little more inquisitive about the real issues throughout the City of Two Harbors and allowed Jones to share his inside knowledge. Instead, some of his fellow councilors think, as does BAKER, that Jones should not be on the City Council! Jacoby, he is figuring things out and realizes he "sided" with the wrong side in the beginning and it may be to late for him to correct that now. Glaser, I don't think a Mayor of Two Harbors has ever had their "PERSONAL AGENDA" on their mind more than does Glaser. PATHETIC! A changing of the guard is coming and long overdue! David, thank you but it's time to go! Mary, stick with the parade oraganizing! Robin, join the City Band you are great at tooting your own horn, blowhard! Darrin, it's sad people can't have the understanding and vision you do, have fun with Adam and his endeavors, if that is what you choose! |

The problem is that the very fabric of our society is so loose knit - because we are a broad based society today - with many issues. Society is not like it was 30 or 40 years ago, when we were more cohesive and close knit. The divergance of thought, makes being a township officer, city councilor, school board member, county commissioner, state representative, and congressman for the most part a sucky job. As the old saying goes, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" ~~now there a heck of a lot of truth in that statement. As far as the cost of local government - it's all public record people. You can contact the city administrator or the county auditor or the school district and get any financial questions answered by simply asking for it. Don't be afraid, after all YOUR paying for it. |

6971 Anytime yes that is the total cost for both a conduit is any of the bonding deals as the hospital etc where for using the city as the bonding the city gets 1% of the total bond upfront Nord let all of these things go by.7/8% than until paid.A lot of the expense Steve is over the Cave Projects and they are mounting. |

Has anybody heard anything, or has the council decided to retreat from their retreat? Citiboy - do you have inside information, that isn't private or confidential? Also, I haven't heard anything on officially naming our new road "BATTAGLIA BOULEVARD". Come on, the road needs a name! Two Harborite - excellent quote from the past. This one is for the commission looking at our City Charter. If you haven't already - please look at decreasing the size of our City Council! We don't need seven (7) people looking at everything! Larger cities have councils with five people. |

"69" - Sorry, I've heard nothing further about this "retreat": Don't even know if it'll even come off!? It has been clearly stated that at least one member intends to "sound off" on others (stating the belief that others want to reciprocate), but I get plenty of that in the regular meetings and see no purpose in mere repetition of that particular activity. Some folks just never get past (or get over) what they perceive to be a personal slight: They harbor resentments which seethe just below the surface, occasionally (and all too frequently, in my book) erupting in public where everyone then shares in the whole festering miasma. I have never witnessed such disappointing, counter-productive, vengeful behavior in my life.... Sadly, I do not foresee any meaningful change in those patterns... How sad for this community! CITIBOY - Me thinks thou dost wax too eloquently at times. I have no doubt that you are an intelligent person. Now, when you are right, stay right, don't stoop to anyone else's level. Treat others as you wish to be treated and people will know you are trying to do the right thing. You have some good ideas - keep pushing forward - but, not at the risk of belittling others. "69" - Thanks for the caution to remain calm! I tried to do just that this past council meeting... hope it came across that way? And I think you misinterpreted "Baker": I believe the reference made was a positive endorsement of Pastor Joseph - not a slam? I'm sure Baker will correct me if I err in that statement. And "Baker" - I would encourage you to call me at home to discuss the allegations and aspersions you cast about so casually.. and hope that you would not continue to dispense such misinformation in this forum (or anywhere else, for that matter)? This is exactly the problem which Mitch Costley so eloquently pointed out to the council: People here have a tendency to repeat gossip and accept it as gospel, without ever having even asked to hear the "other side"... to make sure that they're as fully informed as possible to all aspects of an issue. If questions were asked in an open, civil manner - prior to sensationalizing in the grandstand of the public venue - most of the alleged controversy this community seems to thrive on would be dispelled, and the truth revealed... without publicly casting unwarranted aspersions and creating additional animosity. The cable commission issues had been dealt with by that commission, the city administrator, and the city attorney - and any misconceptions had been rectified by the commission of it's own volition - long before the council meeting. They self-evaluated, and realized that there might be misperceptions of possible impropriety, and self-policed their own action and decisions - as any responsible committee should - arriving at an alternative solution that not only alleviated any concerns of impropriety, but resulted in additional equipment value received.. at lower cost! And how many other commission have the dedication and enthusiasm to hold meetings that exceed four hours? In other words, it was a "non-issue" that someone chose to make an issue of. Which led to the resignation of Pastor Joseph, immediately following the Monday council meeting. Fortunately, we on the cable commission were able to convince him to remain with us, and "fight the good fight". Look for many good things to come of that: He is an educated, principled man - infectiously enthusiastic - with particular knowledge of (and interest in) public access television... an incredible, valued asset to the cable commission and the community at large. And "Baker"? I'll do the "(Ben) Franklin plan" with you any day, running a "balance sheet" comparison, stacking the positive accomplishments I've helped to achieve with the Agricultural Society against your perceived negatives. Just call me, and be open enough to hear all sides of the issue, before making further statements as you did above. You certainly appear eager enough to make disparaging remarks; Would you be equally as willing to consider trying to help out, too, instead of simply criticizing? C'mon, I dare you! Hey, boys - lighten up here: The "c'mon, I dare you" remark was may to soften the hard edges... not a "nose-to-nose, toe-to-toe, I''ve-drawn-a-line-in-the-sand" type of challenge! I'm just interested to hear from "Baker", if he's actually ever actively participated in the Ag Society, since he's so keen to criticize on that issue? JC - I couldn't follow your "stream-of-consciousness" statement two messages above ... the "I have it from a good source" thing... were you saying that someone else "deserves the credit" for asking the Pastor to stay on? If so, please identify them to me: I'd be more than happy to see that they receive all the credit for that! I simply meant to relate that the other commission members expressed their strong support to him, desiring that he remain on the commission and continue his enthusiastic participation, to which he agreed. As far as blowing my own horn, I'm simply trying to let everyone know what we've been trying to accomplish: I don't wish to take credit for those accomplishments, but by the same token I'm frustrated by those who a) don't care to participate in trying to improve and contribute to this community, but b) seem to have an endless supply of criticism for those who do! And "Baker" - since you have better things to do besides sitting by a computer, let me offer you two alternatives? 1) just skip over whatever I post, or 2) try calling me sometime, to share your views, frustrations, beefs, or whatever - instead of simply "venting" in the forums? You know my name, my number's in the book... feel free to call?! Citiboy Steve Phillips PS. I'm mildly curious: You state that the Pastor "appears to be the only one on the commission who makes sense when he speaks". As he's been on the commission for such a short time, and has never appeared before the city council with regard to cable commission issues (although as Vice-Chair of the commission, he will assume the role of spokesperson before the city council), where would you have had the opportunity to have heard him speak on related issues? I'm not disagreeing with your right to believe the statement you made, just curious, that's all... and JC? It's not about the "class" you think you're in, but more about the "class" you show in your personal deportment.. just my opinion, there...

Oh, "Baker" & "JC"? Just one quick point: I didn't intend to put you on the defensive. I have no doubt that whomever ever you are - hiding behind that alias - you could very well have done much more than I for this community... as I've only been living here for some five years now. Nor was I implying that we should compare a "tally sheet" - to enumerate our respective accomplishments. If you reread my post more carefully this time, you might see that - in response to your criticism of my agricultural society activities - I was merely expressing my willingness to make a list of the positive contributions I've helped to acheive, and compare it to the negative impacts you attributed to me. I believe that in balance, I've done more good than harm: At least, that has been my sincere intention. There was no intent to compare a list of my accomplishments against yours.... just a clarification of my activity with that organization. Perhaps you are not fully aware of just how much time and effort I've actually put into that organization, and I'd love to talk with you about it? Citiboy Steve Phillips
