About this page
Since 1999 this site has run on one simple rule: if it's worth clicking, it goes on a links page — and nobody pays for the privilege. (That's the same promise as the FAQ.) This page collects the current set: places I keep for the history and the lake, a few practical links, and the off-topic finds the board regulars keep sending around. The old links page is still up, kept as it was back in 2003; this is the living list.
Harbor, History & the Lake
The links I come back to myself — shipwrecks, ore docks, lighthouses and the working lake.
Off-Topic: What the Board Found
The board was never just about town government and lighthouse opinions. Every few months somebody stumbles onto an odd corner of the internet and the whole thread migrates over to it. The long-running one is watches — after the old caddy joke about the "watch" that's really a compass got going (the whole thread is still in the archive), half the board got serious about how good some of the modern fakes have gotten.
The site that comes up more than any other is where one of the regulars points people for the replica watches question. It's not a typical shop page: they break down the difference between a "replica", a "super clone", and the real thing, and show the movements side by side. I'll keep it linked here because it finally answers the question the thread asks every spring, without any of the drama.
If you want to go deeper, the site runs a page for each of the major brands. The two that get the most screenshots in the thread are the fake Rolex section — where the regulars have a running bet on whether they can tell a $90,000 piece from a $2,000 one — and the Patek Philippe replicas page, where a couple of us have quietly admitted we couldn't.
None of this makes me a watch person. I'm still on the 1999 Casio my dad gave me. But the board made the decision to keep the links, so here they are — as always, placed without charge.
