A guilty pleasure is one of those things that might make you one of the crowd that is "uncool". It could be enjoying a good song by someone you usually detest, a film that has been panned by friends and critics everywhere, but somehow you really enjoyed it. Tell us your guilty pleasures and DOM...keep it clean!

Pond Boys email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-28-2001
We really like Olivia Newton John in Xanadu! yea my brothers right on that one!

homebody email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-28-2001
Once in a while I listen to the Saturday NightFever Soundtrack and boogie all by myself, watching my moves in the big mirror in the bedroom

cruiser email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-28-2001
I bring Homebrew to parties and let my "friends" have some. Once I filled a bottle with urine, recapped it and watched them drink it. To this day they never knew what it was, but everyone thought it was good.

webman email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-28-2001
There is a nice shot of the Edna G. on the photo page. Thanks Nugget!

Falcon Edie email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-28-2001
Nugget-you can take pictures like a son of a bitch! That is a real neat picture of the Edna G--actually looks kind of spooky with the fog. Like something you'f see in a Scooby Doo Mystery!

Capt. Ojard email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-29-2001
Not bad, but I have seen better!!!

Skipper email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-29-2001
That is a cool picture Nugget good job, Webby what the hell were you trying to write introducing Drifter's Heritage Days pics? too many Stanko homebrews that day?

Resident email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-29-2001
Cruiser

Gee, what a class act. You are a disgusting moron.

webman email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-29-2001
Skipper, Thanks for the proofreading job. I just wanted to see who was paying attention

Torggy email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-29-2001
Thanks to Nugget and Webby for the great Edna G picture. Speaking of the Edna G there is an article about it being moved in the chronicle. Click the link belowe to read it.

In keeping with the theme of this thread, I really despise Michael Jackson will not allow his music in the house. But every once in awhile when driving alone there are a couple of his songs I really like.

Hey Edie, so now we know what kind of entertainment you and your son are watching. Or is that TWC's favorite show?

TWC email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-29-2001
Hello, fun seekers. I have safely returned from Big D and two days of listening to football coaches tell lies. Ain't nothin' better than that.

As usual, my hotel was within walking distance of Dealey Plaza. I did the museum (in the School Book Depository) a few years back, so I didn't return. However, I noted that a block or so away, there's a new restaurant called the Kennedy Kafe. Jesus. We speculated on what a few of the house specialities might be.

Zapruder's Zucchini. Serve at 10, film at 11.

Ruby's Tuesday. A special night where New York Strip Steak is served. Anyone named Oswald gets in free. Of course, he may not get back out.

The Grassy Knoll Salad.

The J. Edgar Hoover Menu. Every other Monday, everything on the menu is a buck. However, the menu has been classified and won't be released.

Anyway, we thought about going to the Kennedy Kafe. Couldn't get in. Too many CIA agents and Cubans hanging around.

Drifter email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-29-2001
Catching up on the weekend's posts as I bring closure to a nice summer weekend.... It is 81 degrees here with a light breeze. Clear blue skies and just beautiful. We had some friends over for dinner tonight. Grilled out while watching the Twins get smoked (again) by Seattle. Another work week ahead, another summer day behind us. If I may steal a phrase from a Rush song --- "Summer's going fast, nights growing colder. Children growing up -- old friends growing older..." Be good, fellow Arblites!

Torggy email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
That’s too funny TWC. Looks like a bunch of journalists had too much time on their hands. Thanks for the heads up on the fact that football coaches will stretch the truth. Here I thought they were always honest.

Sounds like a great evening Drifty, except for the Twins losing. Seems like the Mariners can do no wrong. Everthing they touch is a hit and all their throws are on target. Well it is better than the Yankees or the Braves I guess.

Vegas email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Happy Birthday to you!!!! Happy Birthday to you!!! Happy Bithday dear Bro!!! Happy Birthday to you.

How old are you??? How old are you.....

TWC email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Hmm, guilty pleasures. Well, two of them are bad TV shows -- the 1950s "Adventures of Superman" and "Batman" from the 60s. The dialogue was awful, the plots worse and the action scenes laughable. Which is the point. These shows were so bad they were good - accidental sitcoms, I guess.

Sample line from Batman after he gets the best of Mr. Freeze at the end of an episode:

"Bet you didn't know I was wearing my super-thermal underwear!"

Now, how can you not love a show with dialogue like that?

One more: The Blue Swede version of the B.J. Thomas song Hooked on a Feeling. It just makes me laugh.

Fritz email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
This is a secret so don't tell anyone but I love the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and I sing Bless Your Beautiful Hide at the top of my lungs while mowing the grass.

TWC email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
It's your birthday, Torggy? Well, many happy returns.

As a gift, I'll arrange for my close personal friend Neil Diamond to send you a red sequined jacket and matching pants. And a copy of the lyrics to "Forever in Blue Jeans."

onlooker email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Anyone ever watch and wonder about, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.

Had a great long weekend camping. Went south and the weather was great yesterday until we got to Moose Lake. Then we got the lake affect and it got cold. Hope everyone else had a great weekend also.

Torggy email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Gee thanks Sis. Have you no mercy?

Wow! Could you really arrange that TWC? It would make my life complete if you could get him to include a copy of "Cracklin Rosey".

TWC email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Ohhh, Cracklin' Rosie get on board...

By the way it's too bad you had to watch the Twins when they're right in the middle of a major league collapse.

It sounds like Safeco Field is a great place though.

Anyway, hope your birthday goes well. Or went well, as the case may be.

Robin email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
ZAP! BAM! ZOWIE! Holy Arblites Batman.

TWO-Z email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TORGGY! HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT ONE. ARE YOU STILL COUNTING FORWARD?

I WAS IN THE CITIES THIS WEEKEND AND READ THE BIG STORIES ON WHAT'S UP WITH THE VIKINGS. I AM A LITTLE DISTURBED AT WHAT THE TEAM MEMBERS ARE SAYING AND WITH RED'S ACTION'S. RANDY MOSS MAY BE GREAT BUT YOU NEED A TEAM AS A WHOLE TO WIN GAMES. AND WE LOST SO MANY GREAT PLAYERS JUST FOR RANDY. ONE MAN CANNOT WIN GAMES ALONE. IF THE DEFENSE HATES PART OF THE OFFENSE WE'RE IN BIG TROUBLE.

Torggy email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Thanks for the birthday condolences guys. They say the first half century is the hardest. Have a great day one and all. I got to get to work.

happy email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Happy B-Day, Torg!! My youngest son, Luke, turns 18 today.....it seems just yesterday ....... p.s. - we leos do rule, don't ya know.

Oh, I've been gone for what seems like forever, AND NOBODY MISSED ME!!!

Drifter email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Torggy - Happy birthday and treat yourself to a cold Steinhaus tonight. Put it on Skipper's tab. Happy - Of course we missed you. I believe Two-Z was wondering where you have been. TWC - "Gow who gow who gow who, cha cha gow who gow who gow who.." (Sorry, that's supposed to be the beginning of Hooked on a Feeling...)

Drifter email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Actually, maybe it was more like "...ooga, cha cha, ooga, ooga, ooga, cha cha..."

TWO-Z email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
I, I, I, I, I'M - HOOKED ON A FEELIN, I'M HIGH ON BELIEVING. THANKS DRIFTER, I CAN'T GET THE SONG OUT OF MY HEAD NOW.

WELCOME BACK HAPPY. LAST ONE'S ALL GROWN UP.

CRUISER, PLEASE TELL ME IT ISN'T SO. PLEASE.

TWC email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
I believe the correct version is: Ooga, chucka, ooga, ooga oooga, chucka.

Or something like that

Two-Z, here's a song to replace Hooked on a Feeling in your head:

"Oooh, see that girl

Watch that scene

You are the dancin' queen.

happy email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Two-Z - at least YOU missed me!! I have 3 youngsters that are all grown now...but my youngest daughter is still keeping me young at heart - she just turned 8 - du

TWO-Z email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
THANKS TWC. I APPRECIATE THAT. (NOT) I CAN ALMOST SEE THE MOVIE IN MY HEAD AS WELL NOW.

A proctologist walked into a bank. Preparing to endorse a check, he pulled a rectal thermometer out of his shirt pocket and tried to write with it. Realizing his mistake, he looked at the thermometer with annoyance and said, "Well, that's great, just great! Some asshole's got my pen!!"

Falcon Edie email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Another joke--a blind man walks into the drug store, walks down an isle, raises his cane and starts knocking everything off the shelf. A clerk rushes over and says "Sir, can I help you with something!" The blind man says "No thanks, I'm just looking"

Skipper email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Chev, I'm embarassed to say I always thought he said "Cracklin Rosie get on Boy" ever do that, say something in a song and find out it is not what you have been singing? Go Cyclones!!!!

Bassman email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
The blind man said in reply to a statement made by his friend, oh I see, but he really didn't. Then he pick up a hammer and saw.

I read in the paper today that a guy killed his wife and the knife was still in her yet. Where is her yet?

webman email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
I plead guilty. I love another Neil. Sedaka that is. "I'm livin' right next door to an angel, and I'm gonna make that angel mine." One of the first singers to dub in his own background vocals.

TWC email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-30-2001
Well, Skipmeister, you may be assuming too much. I'm not sure I'm right about Cracklin' Rosie either. I've never seen a sheet of lyrics.

It's interesting you should bring that up. I saw a Web site today that's devoted to incorrect lyrics. You can link to it via itsflashback.com.

By the way, Skipper, if you have any eligibility left, you may want to become a Cyclone. They need help on the d-line. If you can tackle like a son of a bitch, you could be the man.

Rascal email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
Anybody else out there lose their job?

Fred email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
Webman, I saw a tv ad for a Neil Sedaka greatest hits CD. I like his voice, too, but am not yet compelled to purchase a CD. I did watch part of the Neil Diamond show on A&E, and I have to admit that I like it better when artists stay close to the "album version" of the song, rather than embelishing (changing tempo or melodies)..I can't sing along as well!

Two-Z, it's been 4 days since I've golfed...I think I'm dying.

Nugget email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
Happy belated Torggy...and many, many returns...Neil Diamond sold out the Excel Energy Center in 15 minutes yesterday, a second show has been added. According to today's St. Paul paper, only the Dixie Chicks have sold the building faster...TWC, you killed me with the Kennedy Kafe stuff. Well done. Guilty pleasures that make me uncool? There's probably too many levels of my 'uncoolness' to mention, but when I'm alone in my truck I listen to and memorize speeches or parts of speeches that I think have significant historical value, or listen to current movers and shakers speaking on the issues of our times. My son just rolls his eyes when he gets in and before he has a chance to get to a Backstreet CD, hears 10 seconds of a speech. Of course, I may have been singing to that same Backstreet CD singing in a terrible and aged falsetto at the top of my lungs just moments before he got in the truck, be he doesn't need to know that...A love of poetry probably adds to my 'uncoolness'...

TWO-Z email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
FRED, YOU BETTER GET OUT THERE FAST. I'M WORRIED ABOUT YOU. I'M IN A TOURNAMENT FRIDAY. CAN'T WAIT. LOOKS LIKE GREAT WEATHER FOR IT.

HOPE ALL CAN STAY OUT OF THE HEAT TODAY. GONNA BE A BAD ONE. I HEAR 107 HEAT INDEX IN THE CITIES.

SKIP, THERE ARE MANY SONGS I'VE SONG WITH THE WRONG WORDS. THERE'S THE GAME OF HIDE AND SEEK WHERE WHEN YOU CALL THEM IN, I ONLY FOUND OUT LAST YEAR I ALWAYS SAID THE WRONG THING. TOO FUNNY.

Drifter email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
I think everyone has thought they knew the words to a song, but later found out it wasn't even close. I used to think "Evil Woman" was "He is a woman.." The all-time best was a person in my class who thought Elton John's "Island Girl" was "I like girls..." Stay cool, everyone.

Nugget email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
Drifter...the irony, of course, is that he doesn't...

TWC email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
I read in a bio about the Beatles that when the Fab Four met Bob Dylan for the first time, Dylan misquoted the lyrics to I Wanna Hold Your Hand. He thought the line was "I get high," when it was actually, "I can't hide."

Then there was the Paul is Dead scare (craze or whatever). I don't remember which song it was, but fans thought they heard "I buried Paul" when it was actually "cranberry sauce." I think

Finally, a friend of mine insisted that a line in Elton John's Honky Cat was "pissin' in a stream" when it was "fishin' in a stream." Oops

Torggy email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
Rascal, sorry to hear ya lost your job. Just hang in there man, there is another one around the corner. Being self-employed I like to say I wake up everyday unemployed and have to find a job. There's lots of ways to make a living. Go find one.

Happy it is great to hear from you. That was a great joke. Is your youngest as bored with summer as mine is? It's about this time of summer they start missing school.

Because of the Internet and thus the availability of song lyrics I have found that almost every song I thought I knew is actually different. Some of the Bob Dylan lyrics still do not make any sense even after I read them.

Tim email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
Rascal Get off your lazy butt. Stop playing with your computer. Go find a job. Usually companys get rid of deadwood through layoffs. Poor performance equals no job. Layoffs clean the crud out of the workplace. Too many Democrats think the world owes them a living.

happy email icqRe: Guilty Pleasures07-31-2001
Hey, Torrg. Yup, Kaitlin is already worrying about her school supplies - and this year she's gotta have a Scooby-Doo backpack - She's starting to grow tired of The Power Puff Girls (after I invested in Power Puff Girls sleeping bag, blanket, pillow and pillowcase, shoes, t-shirts, etc., etc., etc.). Scooby-Doo is pretty cool, though - he's still my favorite hound dog!

Two-Z, what is it about golf?? I participated in many-a sporting events, but have yet to swing a club....is it too late to learn?

Have a wonnnnerful day, all! (heat index hear has only reached 113 - I'm dripping in the air-conditioning as I type.)
