Falcon Edie | Favorite Movies | 07-23-2001 |
| Hell, why not start a new thread when there are already at least 3 open ones. What are your favorite movies--do you like the old black and white, action movies, romantic movies or just a good old comedy. One of my favorites that I just say recently was "Almost Famous". I also loved "The Graduate" with Dustin Hoffman and Gross Point Blanke with John Cusak. Come on everyone, tell us your favorites.

| Good post Falcon...#1 Godfather #2 Godfather II #3Caddyshack #4 Stripes #5 Glenngary Glenross #6 The Graduate #7 Pom Pom Girls.....

webman | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-23-2001 |
| How I answer this one depends on my frame of mind at the time. Right now I would have to say "The Blues Brothers" and "Caddyshack" are a couple of my all-time favorites. I liked "Almost Famous" too. Some of the older Clint Eastwood westerns rank way up there too. How about "High Plains Drifter"?
Drifter | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-23-2001 |
| Now we're talking. I love a good comedy -- Caddyshack, Animal House, Vacation, The Jerk. I also really liked Scarface and Deliverance. I agree with Webman, it depends on your frame of mind. Now that I have kids, I've even come to enjoy some of their movies -- Toy Story (I and II) were both damn good. Switching gears, American Beauty was a bit strange, but in my opinion was an excellent movie. The lists goes on and on.....

Fred | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| Good topic! In my very small video collection are The Truman Show, Jerry McGuire, & The Truth About Cats & Dogs. I also enjoyed American Beauty (Kevin Spacy is so cool!), Erin Brokovich, & Chocolat. One movie that always cracks me up is Happy Gilmore.

onlooker | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| Hey everyone, vacation was great. Boy, it took a long time to read all the posts that have been going on for the past couple of weeks. Webman, I have a collection of almost every Clint Eastwood movie made. But I must say that my absolute favorite is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles with Candy and Martin. I've seen it countless times and still laugh. It seems like alot of the good ones die like John Candy and John Belushi to name a couple. Imagine what other great stuff Belushi would have made, he was so good and should have had alot of years left in him. There's really to many to name. Some of the Freddie movies, some Rambo's, a couple of Rocky's. The Magnificent Seven, Chuck Norris, alot of Charles Bronson. Like Drifter said, "The lists goes on and on....." Oh, and ya better not forget The Ten Commandments.

Nugget | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| Good topic. A Few Good Men comes to mind. Nicholson was HUGE even though he had very little screen time. Apollo 13 was probably the best movie that never won anything; Ed Harris was great. Patton was good. Gettysburg is one I still watch often as it mixed in so much of the heroism and patriotism and even civility of the Civil War. Braveheart. I still find Big with Tom Hanks funny. When I saw it for the first time and Tom Hanks and his boss were dancing on the piano keys on the floor, I laughed until I nearly fell out of my seat. I don't really know why, but it makes me laugh still.

Plywood | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| Nobody mentioned the Airplane movies or the Cheech and Chong flicks yet. There are only a few movies that I can watch over and over again...Braveheart, which Nugget already mentioned, and Good Will Hunting.

Torggy | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| My favorite movie is Star Wars, the first one. I love the bar scene. Anybody ever go to movies at the Norshore or the Granada in Duluth? They were very beautiful theaters in their day. I used to love sitting in the balcony at the Norshore. I watched PT-109 from there. I can remember seeing Ben Hur for the first time in I believe 1959 in the old theater in Two Harbors. It was so long they had a intermission and let us go for a walk outside. Also saw Lady and the Tramp there.

Captain America | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| Any list like this (for me) has the implied statement "outside of the Star Wars trilogy" at the top... So some of my favorite movies (insert implied statement here) include the Blues Brothers, Spartacus, Gladiator, Slap Shot, Dead Poet's Society, Rio Bravo and The Shootist. The last two movies are John Wayne westerns, but both are great. Rio Bravo co-stars Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson, while The Shootist is about an aging gunman at the end of his life and co-stars Ron Howard...

Bassman | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| How about "One Eyed Jacks", "The Great White Hope" (James Earl Jones Best), "On The Waterfront" and anything that Anthony Hopkins is in he is alway great! One of his best was "The Silence Of The Lambs."
Former Res | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| I can't rank mine, but here thay are: Slap Shot, Saving Pvt. Ryan, The Great Outdoors, Tombstone, The Great Santini, Patton, Vacation, Animal House, The Hunt for Red October, The Shawshank Redemption, Stripes, and last but surely not least, Tommy Boy... Captain, I was sure that 'Behind the Green Door' would have made your top 5....
Skipper | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| I too can watch the old Eastwood westerns over and over, would you believe I have never seen a Star Wars movie, honest....
Kitty | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| Like Former Res, my favorites are also not ranked: Crazy From the Heart, Sleeping With the Enemy, the entire Star Wars trilogy, Rambo and it's sequels, Pale Rider, National Lampoon's Vacation, Stripes, Scent of a Woman, Casablanca, Rear Window, Sarah Plain and Tall and it's sequels, Anne of Green Gables, and that western with Sam Shepard and the woman who ties notes on the tumbling tumbleweeds-darn, I just can't think of her name or the name of the movie!
Skipper | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-24-2001 |
| "The Deer Hunter", the first time I seen that I thought it was amazing....
Plywood | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Kitty - The movie is Conagher and the lady's name is Katherine Ross. I have no life so I know these things.
Garth | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| I'm surprised Skipper hasn't mentioned Urban Cowboy. The day after we saw it he made me go to Duluth with him so he could buy a black cowboy hat, boots, and a tin of Copenhagen.

onlooker | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Ahh Kitty, Pale Rider, "There's nothin like a good piece of hickory". How about Mad Max, Cocktail, Trading Places, Lethal weapon, the first Hellraiser, and that stag party movie that got made in 1985. It's a rare one and you guys might not have seen that. It was filmed in Ely. Kitty, I seen in the other thread that you read to the guy who can't see and I seen that you mentioned that before. That's great. Last week I took two guys that can't see fishing for three days. High maintenance but they had a ball and caught alot of fish. One of them I picked up lives in TH.

Captain America | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| I must agree with Dan Pond and the Pond boys--"Warriors" is a great flick. Plus, you get that Joe Walsh song in the soundtrack!

Plywood | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Charleton Heston has to be the greatest actor of our time. In Omega Man he blew away all those half dead night walkers, in Soylent Green he ate recycled human bodies and in the Planet of The Ape movies he didn't take shit from no monkeys. Greatest Heston line ever: "Damn you....Damn you all to helllllll!"

Fritz | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Thank's Former Res. All I have to do is think of that bear getting the hair blown off his butt and I can chuckle all day. Great Outdoors is a great movie.

Elroy | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |

Fred | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Does anyone else get sucked into watching movies when you're flipping channels? Last week I watched On Golden Pond (and I'm not sure why), and I think I've watched When Harry Met Sally on TNT about 50 times!
Kitty | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
Thanks, Plywood, stick around here and you'll at least have half a life! All good movie choices, but Elroy, shouldn't your post have been on the other thread, perhaps? Onlooker, I had to laugh at the 'high maintenance' comment! That was really great of you to take 'em out fishing. Sure gives you a better appreciation for sight, doesn't it?

Kitty | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| I know exactly what you mean, Fred, just last night I watched 'Deliverance', of all movies, and I intended to go to bed early.
Drifter | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Hillbilly in Deliverance - "You got a purtty mouth.." Poor Ned Beatty.

Captain America | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Hey Plywood, are you planning on seeing the Planet of the Apes re-run this weekend? Donny Walberg reprising the classic Heston role I believe. Former Res, I try very hard to stay on THIS side of the Green Door...
Former Res | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| With the exception of "The Shootist" (great movie) which was picked by Captain, I did not see any other John Wayne movies....I hate to slight "The Duke", so I have to add The Quiet Man to my list also... Also am going to add Fletch as well as the sequel Fletch Lives. Elroy, very true about American Pie....I laugh my head off with every scene with the Dad.... Something About Mary also has some great lines...."Is that the frank or the beans"?
Plywood | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| I plan on seeing the new Planet of the Apes, but not this weekend. Looks good. I read that my boy Heston has a cameo. Speaking of Mark Walberg...ever see Boogie Nights? Dirk Diggler is my hero.

Elroy | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Fred - I got sucked into watching Ironweed a few nights back on AMC. Stars Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep as homeless piss bums living in Albany NY in the late 30's. Started watching this dud and figured eventually it had to get better, but never did. Not sure if I was more mad at myself for not turning it off or at the people responsible for making this royal piece of crap.
Fred | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Elroy, sorry to hear about the bad pick! I saw a preview for that but never watched it. Thanks for the heads up. I did watch a good movie on Bravo with Gene Hackman last week...didn't know a thing about it, but it was worth watching. I can't remember the title, but most of it was on a train.
Fritz | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| What's the name of the Gene Hackman movie about he small town basket ball team in Indiana. I can remeber the name of the town was Hickory but I can't remeber the title.

Nugget | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Hoosiers
webman | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| I have to add a couple more to my list. I watch "The Three Amigos" whenever I find it on the tube. "Sew, sew, sew like the wind!" or, "Do you know what foreplay is?" "No." "Good, ElGuappo doesn't either." I am thinking about adopting the 3 Amigo salute as the official Arbley Salute. Another favorite, Dolph Lundgren in "I Come in Peace" Stupid, bad movie, but I still like it.
DOM | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| Bo Derek was awesome in "10". I liked the shower scene in Porky's. Revenge of the Nerds was good. Barb-Wire with Pamela Anderson, I love the beginning. Basically any movie that shows an attractive naked woman is top notch in my book.

Falcon Edie | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| I'm watching the movie "Major League" on Comedy Central tonight. Crazy movie-I really like it. Also Bull Durham is another good baseball flick. One of TWC's favorites is the movie "Airplane"-he laughs like a son of a bitch everytime he sees it. He thinks that Robert Stack is an absolute hoot in that film.
Falcon Edie | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-25-2001 |
| A few other of my favorite films are Silverado, Working Girl, While You Were Sleeping, Remember the Titans, The Sure Thing, Sixteen Candles, Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery (the first one), Caddy Shack (of course and I don't even golf)and Ferris Buehler's Day Off.
Fred | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-26-2001 |
| I got sucked in again..Jumin' Jack Flash with Whoopi Goldberg was on Comedy Central when I got home and I couldn't help but watch it. I am a very weak person.
Elroy | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-26-2001 |
| Fred - I've seen that Gene Hackman/train movie too. Good action. I can't remember the name of it either, but I remember Ann Archer was the woman and James B. Sikink was the bad guy in the cowboy boots. Whoopie sux and Ferris is a classic. Anyone like the Breakfast Club? I bet I've seen it at least 10 times.
Fred | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-26-2001 |
| Elroy, yes, that's the one! I was trying to think of Ann Archer..was she the wife in Fatal Attraction? Ditto on Ferris & the Breakfast Club..I wanted that high school library! I'm a little more flexible on Whoopi..I wouldn't say she's my favorite, but I've enjoyed her performances in a few movies.
Torggy | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-26-2001 |
| This is not a movie. But has anyone seen the "Big Joe Polka Show" on RFD TV? I just watched a great rendition of "My baby loves me polka". Least it sounded as good as most the other polka's I have ever heard.
Nugget | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-26-2001 |
Fred, yes, Ann Archer was the wife in Fatal Attraction, which raises the seemingly obvious question: who the hell would look elsewhere while Ann Archer waits at home? Sort of like billionaires looking for more money; how much is enough?

Drifter | Re: Favorite Movies | 07-26-2001 |
