| Obviously, all of us have great memories associated with Lake Superior. Some of us (OK, damn near all of us) have enjoyed a beverage or two while enjoying life along the Big Pond. Or, if you're Torggy, you simply borrow somone else's beverage, and enjoy the good life. So I propose a beer thread. Your favorite beer. The worst beer of all time, or the beer that turned your digestive system into a toxic waste plant. The best kegger you attended, legally or otherwise. And so on. So enjoy. And may the next sound you hear be a that of a fresh one being opened. | ||
| Torggy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-18-2001 |
| I have met only one kind of beer that I could not drink. Fortunately the only place I have ever found it was the Duluth area. At $3.99 a case in the returnable bottles, Steinhaus was the one beer I could never choke down. The best beers of course were the ones liberated from unsuspecting smelt fisherman. Or the ones won in a bet are always great too. | ||
| Denny's Chef | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-18-2001 |
| I still wear the white collar, but partake in liquid libations beyond communion wine. Here in Wisconsin Beer is the state drink. Wait maybe milk is? Oh who gives a rip? Anyway you haven't lived until you have had a frosty mug of Paines Ale from Fox River Brewing company. The micro brews rule. Happy, you win, and are correct on identity, ok let me know who you are, was your Dad a teacher by chance?? oh worst beer POINT from Steven's Point Wisconsin.. the sewage treatment plant is 500 yards upstream from the intake for the brewery. They ship it to Minnesota and call it a premium beer, and a few from up north think it is an import but don't be fooled. Some fat German in Wisconsin is laughing all the way to the bank about the poor swede or norske who plopped down hard earned $$$ for a case of swill not fit for swine~ | ||

| Skipper class of 80?? mmm Maybe with my sister? | ||
| Drifter | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| My favorite beers right now are Rolling Rock and Mich Golden. In my younger days it was all Miller High Life (shorties for a treat). Worst tasting beer I ever had was Olympia Light. Worst beers for the system -- Icehouse and Special Export (Green Death) -- both are just a bad hangover waiting to happen. Yes, I know for a fact that Skipper is from the class of 80. I think he enjoyed taking a pull off the old Blackberry Brandy bottle in his day. | ||
| TWO-Z | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| FAVORITE RIGHT NOW IS MICH GOLDEN LIGHT. WORST IS ALL DARK BEER. YUCK. ALSO BLATZ AND KEG BEER. GET THE WORST HANG OVER FROM KEG BEER. | ||
| The.White.Chevy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Interesting you should bring up Olympia, Drifter. During my college days, Olympia was brought into Minnesota for the first time. It was everywhere for a year or two. Then it began to fade, and finally you could only find it in the Swill section, where Old Milwaukee and other delicacies were sold. | ||
| voice of reason | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Finally a subject we can all have fun with. Best beer(s): I am hard pressed not to say Molson Canadian or Labatt's Blue. American beer, it is sad to say, but I really enjoy a cold mug of Miller Lite. (How boring). Worst beer(s): Anything really dark turns my stomach. Micro brews get way to much credit in general. | ||
| Nugget | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| I have to go south of the border and pick Corona | ||
| Nugget | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Worst beer : Special Ex, hands down and toilet seat up... | ||
| Ivan | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| In my humble opinion: Best cheap: Busch Best mid-range: Mich Golden Best expensive: Sam Adams Best shorty: Miller High Life Best guzzler: Rolling Rock Worst hangover: Stanko homebrew Worst taste: Stanko homebrew Worst gut rot: Stanko homebrew I'm still recovering from the last Stanko brew I had five years ago. My colostomy bag is due to come off next month. | ||

| TWO-Z | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| GROSS!!!!! | ||
| Ivan | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Haven't eaten at the Crest for over 10 years. They had the best jumbo breaded shrimp I've ever had. They served this incredible 5 course meal for about 10 bucks and yes even the ice cold PBR's were good there. Great view of the lake too. Does Bill Beyer still run the joint? | ||
| Drifter | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Two-Z: So you didn't used to go up to the bar and say, "PBR me, ASAP"?? Remember that? I'm with you, though, PBR is a bit harsh. Drifter | ||
| Drifter | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| By the way, thanks Nugget and Ivan. I laughed pretty hard at your back-to-back gems a few messages back... | ||
| TWO-Z | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| DRIFTER, I DID FOR A SHORT STINT BUT WENT TO MILLER LITE FOR A FINER TIME. HAVEN'T US BEER CONASOURS TRIED JUST ABOUT ALL FLAVORS??????????? | ||
| The.White.Chevy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| OK, since I started this, I might as well contribute my list. Favorite beer, any category: Rolling Rock Beer I like but refuse to buy because it's obscenely overpriced: Budweiser Beer I buy because it's relatively affordable and good: Icehouse Beer I can't buy because my wife says the aftereffects could asphyxiate the entire neighborhood: Old Milwaukee Beer that used to be a big deal but it's now just another 12-pack: Coors Beer that tastes like the water was drawn from the Love Canal: Hamms, with Cold Spring in the honorable mention category | ||
| Falcon Edie | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Does anyone remember Pffeifer beer. My dad used to drink that--boy that was nasty! | ||
| Drifter | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Yeah, Edie, I think everyone's dad used to drink Pffeifer's. Nasty is correct. | ||
| happy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Denny's Chef - what'd you think about turnin 40?? My name.. I had the only one of "my kind" in our class - actually, I don't think there was another with it..my dad taught things, but not in school. HOW IS EVERYONE?? Skip my man, have ya been behavin? | ||
| Denny's Chef | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Happy 40 is great, actually spent it up north in TH and Duluth. The way I look at it .. only 10 more years till I get the AARP card and discount at Shoneys.. Life is good for me. You said you were an " only" as in name I take it, and KR was home for you?? Why don't you get back to me on that. All this talk about brewskis has made me thirsty, I agree with the beer gut panel above, Rolling Rock .. Rocks. And I still like Heinies and Becks. Do they allow them to be brought over the border into Minnesota?? | ||
| happy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Denny - I moved from KR to TH in 1971 (i think) - 5th grade - went to John A. Who are the Larson twins? | ||
| Denny's Chef | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Happy.... Scott Larson.. and family. Skipper identity?? aka Mark G?? I'm sorry you have stumped me happy, my year book is buried in the attic, how about initials to name .. back from brewski run lol . | ||
| b-loop | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Since I do not claim to be Daniel Boone, the only 10 pt. BUCK I've ever seen out in the woods is that beautiful deer I see every time I par-take in an ice cold Schmidts beer. Actually, I still have a part-time job in which I work for beer. I am still trying to get Larry Ruberg['78] to come back and work for beer instead of loading up on all that milk!..... P.S. I couldn't help but notice that the ol' Skipper hasn't responded to this new thread. But then again, between him and the BIG DRINKER, the two of them have left many half-a-beers on many occasion. It takes 2 to 3 hrs. just to dump out their half brewskis. GIVE ME ANOTHER ONE,SHTANK!!! | ||
| Denny's Chef | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Happy email listed as is icq# 1507276 drop me a line | ||
| Skipper | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Hey, I just read this thread, leave me alone, I agree with Ivan and Drifter, #1 a box of Rocks #2 Mich Golden Light #3 Busch is not bad....hey this is pretty neat Webby was in the quartet, Denny's Chef was in the quartet, and B-loop was in the quartet, funny thing B-loop sat in the ladies section, as Ivan says he had the sweet soprano voice!.....that swill Stanko bottles would peel the paint of Fleabag's Duster.... | ||
| Skipper | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Sorry that should have said OFF, hold tight Denny, Happy will spill her guts in time.... | ||
| Ed Bacon | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Funny thing is,if the paint did unforseeably peel off of Fleabags Mopar, you can bet your last buck that the incomparable Bob Precord would have it looking better than new after an all nighter in the garage with a 12 pk. of White Label Beer and a snoot of Strawberry Hereford's Cow. | ||
| Denny's Chef | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Skipper I think I taught you all there was to know at playing center for the Agates. I also recall bopping you once in a school assembly in the THHS auditorium, you smiled and I cut my hand on your braces. You threatened to sue me. Whew glad you didn't. Oh almost forgot Leinies Red. Now there is a good beer and Leinies Honey Weiss. Zer gut beer~ I think perhaps I should be writing a column in the Chronicle, Brew Review from Cheeseland. Now that would sell some papers ~! | ||
| Denny's Chef | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-19-2001 |
| Happy.. Was Norm your Bro?? | ||
| Torggy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Wow, you guys all of a sudden are mind-boggleing. Mow just who is part of the shorecrest crew? | ||
| Torggy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Damn, change Mow to Now, thanks. | ||
| Skipper | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Sorry Denny,I don't remember the assembly, didn't mean to bleed on you, by the way has the statute of limitations lapsed on sueing you? Where in the land of the beloved Pack do you reside? Ivan, Chinese Lantern, no better place on earth!!! | ||
| Ivan | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Damned right Skip. I give up a nut for just one more plate of subgum wonton or fong wong chicken from the Lantern. Saw an interesting pitch on the tube last night. Cheech Marin was doing a PSA for CBS telling kids not to do drugs. Then I turned the channel and there he was again...this time in a lowrider smoking a J the size of a salami. Good stuff. | ||
| Denny's Chef | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Skipper I am in Oshkosh 45 miles south of the Holy Land Lambeau.. and I'm up for a position in Green Bay that includes 4 season tickets to the Pack, sure beats a job with a personal parking place and a key to the executive restroom . I take it you are still planting them 6 feet under? | ||
| Torggy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| I have done the Lantern a time or two, but my favorite was Sum Won's Cat at Joe Huey"s. | ||
| The.White.Chevy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Here's a story from the "Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be softball players" file: During my slowpitch softball days in TH, our team sponsored a tournament. We also had a beer-drinking contest with basically one simple rule: The team that finished its keg first, won (what I don't remember, but they won) So we set up all these teams at Odegard Park with a keg each and let 'em rip. At first, everyone simply chugged beers as quickly as they could. Then, after some time had elapsed, things changed. Let's just say the beer came up a lot faster than it went down. So here we were at sunset in TH on a Saturday night and all these softball players are arranged in a semicircle, upchucking. Those of us who sponsored the tournament just sat around, drank our beer slowly and laughed like hell. Looking back, you could call it any number of things - stupid and a terrible waste of beer leap to mind. As someone much wiser than me once said, "Youth is wasted on the young." | ||
| Drifter | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Another beer that I thought was awful was Mickey's Big Mouth. It came in those short fat green bottles. Uggh. Nice story T.W.C. You should think about going into journalism as your profession. What happened to Captain America?? | ||
| DOM | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Hey Chef, can you get me date with your sister? | ||
| happy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Skipper - you want all these kind folk to think I'm a motormouth? o.k.fine. Denny, I have a 'lil bro named Norm, and a couple other 'lil bros, too. I think it was DOM who said Norm used to take his lunch money from him at the John A. - I asked Norm about it.. he says, I didn't take anybody's lunch money, did I? In the same breath .. was it Craig Nicholson?...hah. Skipper's right; I do spill...every time. Y'all have a wonderful day! It's 63 and the sun is shining here - gotta get off this machine, get outside and do some yard work...later | ||
| DOM | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Maybe it wasn't Norm who stole my lunch money, maybe it was Jim Groff. Anyone remember Groff? I think he quit school in the 6th grade. Let's see...Torgerson's from 9th avenue: Geri, Norm, Lyle, and I forget the other one. All very nice people who would give you their last beer, even in a pinch. | ||
| happy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| 10th avenue, DOM, 10th Avenue. I forget - who is fleabag? DOM, who are you? sounding a bit like the nocturnal (spelling?) bird, here. Well, Skip, I don't think I have much more to spill. As you can see, I haven't gotten off the machine yet..ready, set, here I go.. | ||
| TWO-Z | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| HAPPY, DO YOU KNOW CRAIG NICHOLSON? I DO. GOOD FREIND OF MINE. HAVEN'T SEEN HIM IN YEARS THOUGH. I THINK HE'S BACK IN TH. ANOTHER BAD BEER, BOCK. | ||
| The.White.Chevy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Just wondering, Torggy: Did you prefer your Sum Won's Cat served with or without whiskers? | ||
| Denny's Chef | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Well speaking as the fine food restauranteer I was and being a former foodsalesman with Kraft I think the Lantern's Woo Passagassa with a side of eggrolls tops Cantonese Kitty with Wiskers. Hey I think Norm tried to shake me down for some lunch money too once but my sister kicked his ass. Dom how much are you willing to pay for a date with my sister? But fair warning, she might kick your ass too. Happy thanks for the line, appreciated it~ Have to run my chick on a stick is burning on the barbie. Later. | ||
| Skipper | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Classic line Chev, I was wondering the same thing....Ivan, I seen that PSA too, 4 tickets to the Holy Land?,unreal! first Fr. Bob now Rev. Denny, hey Chef can I get special dispensation so I can eat meat on fridays during lent? | ||
| happy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Two-Z, I know the Nicholsons well - saw a picture of Craig at my mom's recently - looks just like Darlene!!! Hadn't "seen" him since high school. DOM, Bobby's the other 'lil bro. Who's fleabag? | ||
| Torggy | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Our senior night graduation party was held at some gravel pit on the Rosine (sp?). The party was going great guns till dawn. I was laying across the trunk of a 1960 chevy, with my chin hanging over the edge of one of the huge wings emptying my stomach to make room for the next round when I heard the girls start screaming. As I sat up wiping the chunks from my chin with my shirtsleeve and looking through beer fogged eyes, there in the early morning light was a moose standing right in the middle of the party. Of course the girls all went nuts and the party came to a screeching halt as everyone jumped into cars and took off. The look of bewilderment on the moose's face was great. As the guy I was riding with was passed out in his back seat, myself and a couple other guys decided to just keep partying moose or not. So as we drank the moose scarfed up all the potato chips and pretzels he could find. You ain't partied till you have partied with a moose. | ||
| Drifter | Re: Corn.Belch | 03-20-2001 |
| Torg - Neat story - the proper spelling is Rossini, by the way. Happy - I remember your bro Bob, he was a classmate of mine from the proud class of 82. And now, folks, we are on to a new thread... Who would like the honors -- your honor???? | ||
