| I don't know about the rest of you, but I have gotten really tired of received emails that have been forwarded & forwarded & forwarded. These emails always contain a promise to pay you money, a plea for a sick child, or some incredibly gruesome horror that we should all be aware of. I have actually bothered to respond to some of these folks. Some of them are well-intentioned but gullible, some are just out to create a stir, and some are just plain IDIOTS. I received one of these just a couple of days ago. It said that I would receive $413 for each person that I forwarded the email to. What a bunch of bullshit. I replied to each and every person on the email with a nice little note with a link to a website that tracks all of these myths. I also tried to email the originator of the email. What I got back was an autoresponse asking for a $20 money order (no checks or credit cards please) for an "untraceable" email address. I tried to email the webmaster for the site, and guess what, another request for $$. Simply amazing. I have a bunch more, anybody else?? | ||

| I got an e-mail that informed me that if I would send my wife to the person at the top of the list, I would receive 1014 wives in return. Needless to say, I tossed the thing and broke the chain. | ||

| smart move Jack. | ||
| Drifter | Re: Unbelievable | 11-12-2000 |
| Awhile back, Skipper sent me one of those chain e-mails where it said if you forwarded it on, you would receive a free 6-pack of Miller beer (no kidding)! Since we were talking free beer, I was curious, so I went into Miller's website and found an old press release which talked about this e-mail prank that was going around. I think Skipper is still waiting for news on when he'll get his free six-pack. | ||
| Skipper | Re: Unbelievable | 11-12-2000 |
| you mean there will be no free beer?.......DAMN! | ||
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 11-12-2000 |
| You guys are too much...free beer!! I never get spam (o.k., don't even start with the food jokes!) with the e-mail program I use through my internet provider, but I get TONS of it through my Excite e-mail, which I only use when I have time at work. I do have a friend who was sending me tons of political e-mail, which I promtly trashed w/out reading, but other than that, I don't get much junk mail, thank goodness. | ||
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 11-12-2000 |
| Webman, you want to know something unbelievable, wait 'till you hear this one! A while back, a writer whose initials are F.S. asked for info about ghost stories on this alt-great lakes newsgroup I read. So I sent him a story I'd known for years, and some personal info regarding the ghost. He wrote back and thanked me and said he was going to put it in his new book, 'Haunted Lakes II'. Well, he printed the story (p.90-93) and some of it is verbatim (all the stuff in quotations), and he never once acknowledged who supplied him with the info!! I don't want any money, just credit where credit is due would have been the nice thing to do. Heck, when I wrote an article for Lakeland Boating, they even paid me, which was a nice bonus, but my name was attached to the article. O.k., I'm finished ranting and raving (for now). | ||
| webman | Re: Unbelievable | 11-13-2000 |
| Kitty, No one has written a review of this book on Amazon yet. You better get to Amazon.com for the opportunity to write the first review of this book. Perhaps you could expose this authors thievery there. | ||
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 11-13-2000 |
| Webman, I think I'll let sleeping ghosts lie. Hey, maybe if he angers one of the ghosts he writes about they'll visit him some evening! | ||
| webman | Re: Unbelievable | 11-13-2000 |
| There was a bar in a town near me that had a sign outside that said "Free beer tomorrow." If you went inside the next day and asked for your free beer the bartender would ask you what the sign said. No one got free beer. | ||
| Wallace Jackson | Re: Unbelievable | 11-14-2000 |
| All you whiners should quit complaining and get on with important things. Who cares about your little troubles? With Bush as President, we all have very large problems ahead. Think of that!!! | ||
| webman | Re: Unbelievable | 11-14-2000 |
| Dear Wallace, Here is a nice mature, rational response for you. BITE ME! | ||

| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 11-17-2000 |
| Phil, where, or where do you guys get these hilarious names from??!! They're too good (or bad) to be off the cuff. Is there a funny-name web site, or something? LOL | ||
| Hugh G. Rection | Re: Unbelievable | 11-17-2000 |
| What funny names are you talking about? I don't get it. I also enjoy bush, but not George W. Hugh G. Rection | ||

| Happy Thanksgiving to all!! Don't eat too much turkey Skipper... Drifter | ||
| Wallace Jackson | Re: Unbelievable | 11-22-2000 |
| I will be eating turkey dinner up at Big Dave's place. We trapped a wild turkey yesterday. Wild rice dressing and wild yams. After dinner we will be traveling to the Dixie for an evening of wrestling and profane language. I thank you. | ||
| Webman | Re: Unbelievable | 11-23-2000 |
Happy Thanksgiving to all! ![]()
| Drifter | Re: Unbelievable | 11-25-2000 |
| I am happy to report that I survived (barely) the Thanksgiving weekend visit to the in-laws (with the help of barley) once again this year. I ate turkey, watched the Vikes beat Dallas, listened to a little bickering, watched CNN Headline News, listened to more bickering, watched High School football, listened to even more bickering, watched MSNBC's coverage of the re-count in Florida, listened to more and more and more bickering... You get the picture.... Anyway, the Drifter is thrilled to be back home. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! | ||
| Sheriff Edwin Doppler | Re: Unbelievable | 11-26-2000 |
| There have been a rash of burglaries in and around the Zumbrota area. Be on the alert for a suspicious person wearing a T shirt with "Bicker Is My Thing" on the back. | ||
| Gaylord | Re: Unbelievable | 11-26-2000 |
| The rumor is that Kitty has the hots for Royce Ellestad. I just cannot believe this, but I heard it at the Landing. | ||
| Skipper | Re: Unbelievable | 11-30-2000 |
| I am finally back from a computer crash, I see Drifter was self medicated with the inlaws, do what you have to Drifter, well anyway I am glad to be back, here's to you all! | ||
| Drifter | Re: Unbelievable | 12-01-2000 |
| I'm not sure about Skipper's "computer crash" story. He and Kitty were mysteriously missing from this site in and around the same time period. Hmmmm... A secret romantic rendezvous to Brimson, perhaps?? Drifter | ||
| Electric Jim | Re: Unbelievable | 12-02-2000 |
| Yes, they were seen together drinking 3.2 Blatz at Hugo's.... | ||
| Skipper | Re: Unbelievable | 12-03-2000 |
| Kitty is at some greek bistro that she likes so often, I am at the Hammond with Jim Sheilds talking amps and ohms. | ||
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 12-10-2000 |
| Hi, everyone! Hope you all had a better Thanksgiving than Drifter-you poor thing! But like Skipper said, self-medication can keep you, at least mentally, distanced from those unpleasent family verbal brawls!! But then, I'm for getting self-medicated any time, and for no reason (with moderation, mind you). Hope your Christmas goes better, Drifter! Hey, Gaylord, if you're going to spread rumors about me, couldn't you pair me with someone who's NOT old enough to be my father??!! And I haven't had 3.2 beer since I lived in Minneapolis, and that was quite a while ago! Give me plain ol' Bud Light, or Hornsby's or Pabst (in shorties). I like the simpler things in life. Skipper, I thought the Hammond was an organ. | ||
| Wallace Jackson | Re: Unbelievable | 12-10-2000 |
| Has everyone died on this site???? Hello????? | ||
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 12-10-2000 |
| Don't worry, Wally, things should heat up around here since tomorrow night is a full moon. | ||
| Drifter | Re: Unbelievable | 12-13-2000 |
| Has everyone finished their Christmas shopping yet? I hear the only shopping Skipper has been doing lately is at the new liquor store down the road from his house. Drifter | ||
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 12-13-2000 |
| ...and you have a problem with Skipper buying his presents from there, Drifter? I'm just bummed I'm not on his list. | ||
| Skipper | Re: Unbelievable | 12-13-2000 |
| Let's see here....Drifter off the list.... 2 cases for Kitty! Santa's watching my friend!!!! | ||
| Drifter | Re: Unbelievable | 12-13-2000 |
| Kitty - The problem I have is that I know Skipper.... Let's say he was to actually purchase a case of Miller Shorties for me for Christmas. Great thought, but I'm afraid by the time he was prepared to deliver said gift, there would be a box of dead soldiers and spent bottle caps. Drifter | ||
| Ivan | Re: Unbelievable | 12-14-2000 |
| Drifter has a point. Skipper can throw them back like a son of a bitch. I've never seen anyone drink so much and never have a hangover. Must be the thick Polish blood. | ||
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 12-14-2000 |
| Skipper, I think they're ganging up on you again, but it sounds like it's deservedly so. Or are they just jealous you can out-drink them? I'd be concerned about my liver, if I were you! Hey, where can a girl go in Two Harbors to get a decent beer, anyway? | ||
| Skipper | Re: Unbelievable | 12-14-2000 |
| Let's see here....Ivan off the list....Kitty off the list, 15 cases for E. Jim!....Kitty I could tell you about these two sometime, their livers are not actually free of barley remains.... | ||
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 12-17-2000 |
I make one little, tiny comment about your liver and I'm off the list??!! Well, I never! Skipper, you're a dandy!! ![]()
| Kitty | Re: Unbelievable | 12-17-2000 |
| Time for a new thread, guys. I think Ivan should start one. | ||
